Miriam’s Perspective…..
We have within us a collection of habitual responses that operate under certain conditions. These are reflexive actions. They are largely outside of our conscious awareness unless they begin or repeatedly stir up difficulties. Then, we know there is something requiring a different approach.
If a coping strategy is creating difficulties for ourselves or others, then it adds stress to our life. So, in addition to external stressors, we might be adding to the stress in our lives by our unconscious beliefs, past decisions, habits of mind, and immature coping actions. This is one area in which I can be helpful to you.
We can increase the percentage of effective coping styles in use and decrease the percentage of ineffective ones. When effective coping strategies dominate, then life is easier, more relaxed and we can breathe and be more productive with more ease.
When we are able to be vitally alive in the present moment, rather than tied to the past, or constantly thinking or worrying about the future, we can experience more “Presence” (Eckhart Tolle) and enjoy more happiness, objectivity, vitality, balance, health, and understanding, which come from a broader perspective, a broader awareness in the moment.
Right now, our habits create unconscious blinders. With careful choices, we can open up our lives so that we can see the whole playing field and act from a more objective viewpoint.
